Thoughts on Weeks 1 and 2 of the 2019 Green Bay Packers season

Good morning, everyone. Before I do a preview of Week 3 of the 2019 Green Bay Packera season, I want to give you my thoughts on the first 2 weeks for Green Bay.

In Week 1, the Packers took on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field to kick off the 100th season of the National Football League. It is safe to say that the game was do by defense. Only one touchdown was scored in the entire game: an 8-yard pass from QB Aaron Rodgers to TE Jimmy Graham. Before that touchdown drive, the Packers went three-and-out on their first 3 possessions. After giving up a field goal, the Packers defense shut down the Bears offense all night long. In the fourth quarter, safety Adrian Amos (who used to play for the Bears) picked off QB Mitchell Trubisky in the end zone. The defense sacked Trubisky 5 times, including the game-sealing sack by a combination of Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith. The Packers won by a score of 10-3 over the Bears to get their first win of the season.

In Week 2, the Packers took on the Minnesota Vikings in the home opener at Lambeau Field. This game could not have started any better for the Packers, as the offense scored a touchdown on their first three drives. Those 3 touchdowns were unfortunately the only points the Packers scored on the day, as the Vikings made things tense. After RB Dalvin Cook scored a touchdown on a 75-yard run for the Vikings, the Packers went down the field to get another score. A Geronimo Allison fumble ended that drive for the Packers and shifted the momentum in Minnesota’s favor. Green Bay was given a sigh of relief late in the second quarter when a Vikings touchdown was nullified due to offensive pass interference. Instead of getting a touchdown, the Vikings settled for a field goal. In the second half, the Vikings scored another touchdown to make it a single-digit game. Despite the lack of good drives for the offense, the Packers defense held the 21-16 lead all the way through the end of the game. For the second week in a row, the defense got an interception in the end zone. This time, it was Kevin King who picked off QB Kirk Cousins in the end zone. With 3 minutes left, the offense got a good drive going with a couple of first downs to seal the win.

After 2 weeks, I think that the Packers have a lot of confidence being 2-0. That record is not just overall, but in division games as well. The defense is doing great in shutting down opposing offenses, especially in the red zone. The offense is still a work in progress, but I think that it will start working great soon. Special Teams is already doing much better than in previous seasons. Even though they are at home this week against an 0-2 Denver Broncos team, the Packers cannot take this game for granted. They still have to execute on all three phases of the game.

For now, the Packers are 2-0. Stay tuned later this week for my full preview of Week 3. Have a great day. Go Pack Go!
